Momiji Pond -a hidden place surrounded by maple leaves-

Momiji Pond or maple leaves pond is one of recommended spots for autumn leaves. That place is very quiet, and the water in the pond reflects the sky like a mirror. Momiji (maple in Japanese) which is seen in the pond is called "upside off momiji" and it is very popular among local people. The water surface of the pond is so clear that it strongly reflects the view.

Momoji pond is located through the village of Sanami, in Imazu district. Since it is a quite place between the valleys, we recommend to go there if you would like to enjoy Japanese scenery and take a day trip slowly, avoiding crowds.

You cannot cross the bridge due to its aging. However, we can take a good picture because this antiquity creates a nice atmosphere.

In Japan, maple leaves are likened to babies' hands: a small red Japanese maple looks like a newborn baby's hands. They grow up from spring to summer. During summer time, they make shadow and protect the moss and other plants from heat. It seems that growing children are giving back to the ground which has nurtured them. Natural cycle tells us that no one can live alone.

Located in the northwest of Lake Biwa, Takashima has many beautiful nature spots in the four seasons. Momiji pond is especially a worthwhile place to go in the new green leaves season and autumn leaves season. The nearest station is JR Omi-Imazu Station.
